2013 Fall Model Railroad Class

On Tuesday, September 3, the Great Falls Model Railroad Club will again offer a Model Railroading Course through the Auburn Adult Education program. Classes meet every Tuesday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the club building at 144 Mill Street in Auburn. The course will run for at least eight weeks and end just before the train show at the Auburn Middle School on Saturday, November 2.
Class members are encouraged to build their own 2-foot by 4-foot module, which can then be displayed at the Auburn train show as a section of the club’s large modular layout. Designing and building this module helps students learn and practice the skills that would be needed for an entire layout. Topics covered in the class include constructing benchwork, wiring, soldering, laying track, and creating scenery.
Parents are encouraged to bring their children and work with them to build a module. Several club members come to the class regularly so all students can get help when they need it. To see photos of classes from previous years visit our Adult Ed image gallery.
To enroll in the Model Railroading Course, or FMI, call Auburn Adult Education at 784-9220. Cost of registration is $15. Students have the option of building a module for an additional $40, which covers the cost of materials.
