The Great Falls Model Railroad Club holds its fourth annual Christmas ExTRAINaganza at 144 Mill Street, Auburn, during the last two weekends of November. From the moment they walk in the door and see trains running on the G-gauge layout, children are fascinated by the sights and sounds. As they enter the main room, they see brightly decorated Christmas trees with trains running beneath them, all of which will be raffled off during the ExTRAINaganza. Around the corner they are greeted by Thomas the Tank Engine and his friends on a separate layout in the G-gauge room. Adults and children will admire the large main layout with its multiple tracks and many unique winter scenes created for the occasion. In the next room visitors will find the club’s permanent layouts for the smaller n-scale and z-scale trains. The club’s extensive HO layout downstairs is an engineering marvel and a work still in progress. Children can sign up to be a “Guest Engineer” and operate one of the trains. Temporary Christmas layouts add more color and excitement.
Train-related items which can be purchased at the club’s store include railroad hats, whistles, T-shirts, books, Christmas cards, and Train Time videos. Children will enjoy decorating and eating gingerbread men, creating Christmas ornaments to take home, and other special activities. The younger children always have fun playing with age-appropriate trains in the children’s play area. Santa Claus will arrive on Saturday, November 24, at 2 p.m.
Dates and times are scheduled to coincide with the “FEZtival of Trees” at the Kora Shrine Center in Lewiston, so families can enjoy both events on the same day or alternate days.

At the September 20 club monthly club meeting, Tom Coulombe requested that club members donate old 12-volt AC adapters. The adapters can power the new LED lighting strips expected to be used on the N-scale layout.
